This is a fascinating cultural tour around the highlights of Ecuador. In this tour you will visit Andean markets, Indian villages, private rose plantations, natural reserves, national parks, etc. You stay in the most beautiful colonial haciendas; restored Spanish style houses with hundreds of years of history offering first class and luxury accommodation all over Ecuador and performing many activities like horseback ridding, hiking and exploring the Andean culture. 90 km north of Quito there is Otavalo the most interesting and biggest Indian market in South America. Your private English speaking guide will take you to visit Calderon, well known for the manufacture of bread-dough figurines, then you continue northwards through dry Andean valleys until you arrive to Otavalo, where you can see the Ecuadorian indigenous people called OTAVALENOS trading and selling their handicrafts.
After lunch at a cozy restaurant you visit Cotacachi, a small town famous for the manufacture of leather goods before visiting Cuicocha Ecological Reserve.
Overnight stay at Hacienda Cusin.
Today you visit some of the most important local villages around Otavalo where you see the local indigenous living in the countryside the way they did centuries ago. You will witness these artisans operating back-strap looms, Spanish looms, making wall hangings, sweaters, scarves, etc. You will also see how they make their typical musical instruments before they play some of them and perform a small Andean show for you. This second day of your tour is for you to get to know the culture and traditions of Ecuador.
Your lunch will be served at Hacienda Pinsaqui and in the afternoon you visit San Antonio de Ibarra, known for its woodcarving.
Overnight stay at Hacienda Cusin.
The morning is free for you to enjoy the wonderful gardens of the Hacienda or explore the surroundings on your own before you drive to the south to Cotopaxi province. En route we have lunch at Hacienda Hualilahua where the owner of this Hacienda will have organized a rodeo show for you performed by the Chagras (cowboys of the Andes) that live in this Hacienda. He will tell you about the history of some Haciendas of Ecuador.
Overnight stay at Hacienda San Agustin del Callo.
After a relaxed evening in one of the oldest Haciendas of the country and the only one that still has some Inca walls incorporated into some of the rooms of the house, you will be picked up in the morning to visit "The Cotopaxi National Park". A place to discover the flora and fauna of the paramo. Enjoy the beautiful countryside of the Andes. Your guide will take you for hike in this place and after lunch at Tambopaxi base camp you will return to Quito.
